One of the most interesting and complicated POW's we did this semester was the one were we found out exterior angle measures of the triangle. None of us could get it during the week, so Cathy drew chalk triangles on the ground and made us walk around them. It took us the whole class period to finally get what she was talking about. We were supposed to find the exterior angles in order to find the interior ones. It was so very enlightening.
"The mathmetician does not study pure mathematics because is is useful; he studies it because he delights in it because it is beautiful." --J.H. Poincare.
I personally do not agree with this quote. At all. I've always been terrible at it. To me, math is the most unattractive thing ever. But, since I'm in Geometry, there are some beautiful patterns and shapes that occur, so I guess math is not all bad. One thing I have found elegant in Geometry this semester is probably all of the POWs. Most of them end in really pretty pictures and patterns. There was one called "The Red Center" that required us to arrange squares with various shapes on them into a picture where all the shapes met up.
